Air Duct Cleaning

Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Facts
  • The USA Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is the leading authority on environmental issues has confirmed that poor Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) is the main cause for Sick Building Syndrome (SBS) and the Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning System (HVAC) is the main contributor for biological, particulate and chemical contaminants indoors.
  • In 1984 the World Heath Organization (WHO) confirmed that Sick Building Syndrome (SBS) was a major modern day health problem, having estimated that up to 30% of new and old buildings are subjected to excessive complains related to poor Indoor Air Quality (IAQ).
  • Further studies made by National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) found that more than 50% of IAQ problems are related to poor ventilation and related maintenance.
  • People in developed and industrialized countries spend up to 90%of their time indoors, mostly at the working place and this is a major concern as studies conducted by the NIOSH, EPA and others show that Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) in many cases is up to 70 times more polluted than outside air.

The USA EPA has noted that up to 20% or 1/5 of the occupants of sick buildings suffer from various symptoms of SBS. These health effects are due to poor IAQ and may be experienced soon after exposure or possibly years later and can be categorized in the following order:-

Immediate Effects- irritation of the eyes, nose and throat, headaches, dizziness and fatique.
Short-Term Effects- which include asthma, hypersensitivity pneumonitis and humidifier fever.
Long-Term Effects- which include some respiratory diseases, heart disease and cancer that can be severely fatal.

Economic losses due to poor IAQ and SBS is very high which is in form of:

  • Absenteeism
  • Medical Treatment
  • Hospitalization
  • Lower Productivity

It is estimated that an average of 140 square meter or 1500 square feet of area generates 18kg of dust per year. Even a slightest of 100mm of accumulated dust in air conditioning ductwork can reduce the system efficiency by up to 21%.

Duct Cleaning Services

  • It is well accepted by all authorities including EPA, NIOSH, ASHRAE, etc that HVAC System is the major contributor to poor Indoor Air Quality (IAQ).
  • Replacing old and dirty air conditioning ducting is very expensive and virtually impossible to a certain organization.
  • Cleaning and sanitizing the air conditioning ducting and chemical cleaning of Air Handling Units (AHU’s) is the only effective and practical way solution to significantly improve Indoor Air Quality (IAQ).
  • This approach costs less than 5% of replacement cost with a minimum or no disruption to normal business.
  • Benefits reaped can be in the form of improved health standard; hence you and your employees should experience fewer symptoms of illness and respiratory problems.
  • Air in office will be cleaner and fresher since poor indoor air is far more dangerous to breathe than outdoor air.
  • Improved air quality minimizes the risk of illness thus resulting in higher productivity level and fewer lost working days.
  • Savings can also be derived from lower medical bills.
  • Technical benefits can be in the form of energy savings better air flow and well balance of air distribution.
  • Reduced risk of fire since formation of mold and textile fibers can be eliminated.
  • Higher asset efficiency and longer asset life span since overall system is well maintained.
According to the national Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA), the averagesix-room house/office collects 40 pounds of dirt, dust and allergens in its air ducts each year. That’s a big problem, considering that 40,000 dust mites can thrive in only one ounce of dust. Those little dust “bunnies” contain a host of unhealthy bacteria, fungi and mold. The EPA estimates indoor air can be two to five times more polluted than outdoor air. Even worse, the contaminated air circulates throughout your house every time the heating or cooling system kicks on.

All that bad air translates into everything from frequent colds and sore throats to headaches, asthma, allergies and chronic fatigue, which in turn causes employee downtime.

Therefore,we at PROEVE MECHANICAL SERVICES SDN BHD would like to introduce our state of the art technology which is Duct Cleaning Services via Robotic Technology cleaning ducts using the dry ice blasting method called “JETTY”.

Introducing Jetty
Jetty is a uniquely designed belt driven robot. It cleans and inspects air-conditioning ducts, kitchen and industrial air vents, air-conditioning vents or any spaces where cleaning is strenuous or impossible without dismantling. The latest generation’s design benefits from the experience gained and continuous development and offers improved utility, greater resistance, higher efficiency and easier handling.

High Efficiency
The robust design and construction of Jetty is powered by dry ice blasting technology and highly efficient nozzles. Available in a range of models, the multi-tracked body of the Jetty allows it to expand to required size of the duct. This center’s the Jetty in the duct for maximum efficiency and ensures stability during nozzle rotation. The rotation velocity of the nozzle and the velocity of the Jetty’s locomotion can be adjusted according to the level of contamination. The dry ice is sprayed from the nozzle at -78 °C. It quickly super cools the surface and causes thermal shock, as a result the contamination is released due to the differences in the tension between the contamination and the underlying surface

Gentle All Round
Dry ice blasting cleans surfaces gently and without causing damage.Another advantage of dry ice blasting is that the dry ice treatment using solid carbon dioxide produces no waste, as the dry ice almost immediately transforms into a gas and leaves the duct through the vent. An indispensable advantage of carbon dioxide is the fact that it is an inert and non-toxic gas

All Duct Shapes
Jetty is able to easily pass through, inspect and clean circular, rectangular or square- shaped ducts and due to its superior design, it can be used in horizontal, vertical or sloping ducting. Jetty can also pass through S-shaped ducting and various turns

Set Up and Operation
Jetty has been designed as a modular, component system. The entire system can be unpacked assembled and set up quickly and easily. The operator controls the robot from a safe location using a control panel. They can easily position the robot as needed by manipulating the control panel and monitor the progress and results as the duct ahead of the robot is illuminated and scanned by a camera. The additional functionality enables video recordings to be saved so the situation before and after cleaning can be assessed and customers can see the difference for themselves.

Ecology
The dry ice blasting method is ecological because the dry ice is produced by cooling existing carbon dioxide. No new carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere during its production or use, so it does not cause an increase in the greenhouse effect. The use of solid carbon dioxide makes it possible to clean highly adhesive and resistant sediments without the application of aggressive chemicals based on organic dissolving agents, acids or alkalis.
